2012 AIANC Eastern Section College Scholarship Golf Outing Recap

The 2012 AIANC Eastern Section College Scholarship Golf outing was again blessed by beautiful weather and a group of enthusiastic golfers. The outing was held at the Neuse Golf Club in Clayton, NC and the course was in perfect condition. Players enjoyed a great breakfast and warmed up on the driving range and putting green under a Carolina blue sky. However, the day was interrupted by a brief pop up shower around noon, but everyone enjoyed a little lunch and relaxed in the club house. The rain only lasted for about 30 minutes and the players were back on the course under blue skies once again. When all the score cards were turned in, there was a tie at 9 under par 63 by the team of our defending champions Ron Lappin, Tommy Batts, Gary Lee & Moises Peres and the team of Frank Brown, John O’Neill, Jim Carr and Henry Lederer. In a score card shoot out, with the lowest score on the No. 1 handicap hole, the team of Ron Lappin, Tommy Batts, Gary Lee & Moises Peres birdied the hole to capture first place and retain the championship trophy. The team of Tripp Eure III finished second, also with a 9 under par 63, and our tournament sponsor team, Garland Roofing, finished third with a 7 under par 65. The day was capped off by a raffle and a wonderful meal of barbecue and fried chicken.

This year’s outing was also a success from a fundraising standpoint. There were 15 hole sponsors and with the help of our premiere sponsor, Garland Roofing, it appears that we fell just short, by $600, of our total scholarship goal of $3,000. These funds will allow the Eastern Section to continue our student scholarship commitments to NC State University and the University of North Carolina – Charlotte.

I again want to thank all of the players who joined us on the course for a great day of Golf and fellowship; and to the Neuse Golf Club for hosting the event.
