2014 Eastern Section Design Awards

This September the Eastern Section of AIA North Carolina Chapter held its annual design awards. Members of the Eastern Section were asked to submit works to be review by a panel of esteemed jurors. This year there were three categories under which members could submit; Residential – which included new construction, renovations, and multi-family, Commercial – which included institutional, education, and governmental works, and a new one this year – that of Service.

The Service Award category recognized works that contribute in engaging local communities and stakeholders in decision-making, provide systems and solutions that service the local community, promote social equality through discourse, generate from ideas built from place and help build local capacity, and are designed to minimize waste and conserve energy.

One of our esteemed jurors, Bryan Bell, one of the SEED® Network (Social Economic Environmental Design Network) founding professionals was sure to point out that the Service Award category is only the second in the nation to be recognized and implemented in a local chapter Design Awards competition.

With seventeen submissions and a total of six awardees the jury board, as a whole, was delighted to see an area such as the Eastern Section of North Carolina produce such great work at a high volume. The jury made a point to commend all the submissions for being of such high caliber works.
